My name is Nur Atikah Binti Ismail. I am 24 years old. I was born on a warm, sunny day in January 1989, to my parent Ismail Bin Husin and Saerah Binti Othman. I am the only girl in my siblings and I have four brothers namely Muhammad Fairuz, Muhammad Hafiz, Muhammad Faiz and Muhammad Hariz. I live and brought up at Pengkalan Balak, Melaka with my precious family. My life so far is comprised of a wonderful family, great friends and a small successful I had.

Presently, I am final year student at University Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam and currently aiming to graduate my Master in Business Administration in the near future. Doing my master is goals in my life and it began smoothly to accomplish it. I wish and set a high hope that I will be able to enter and have a chance studying in abroad one day. Now, I was more than happy because my dreams come true for which I was waiting so long.

Participating in a student exchange program is perfect opportunity for me as a student to visit foreign countries to learn more about their cultures and language. I do appreciate because I've such wonderful experienced in dealing with people of different background and perhaps with different beliefs and values. This also will help me to observe and discover sophisticated technologies in Germany. Here, I would like to share a priceless moment during studying in abroad.

As one of the world’s emerging economies and technologies, I think the Malaysians could examine the process on how German turned out to be one of the most promising countries. In order for me to complete my final semester, I'd been asked by my lecturer, Prof.Madya Dr. Norzaidi Bin Mohd Daud to create a blog about current technologies as a part of my MIS750 project paper. Since i am able to discover German technologies with my own eyes, thus my blog will entertain you about the technologies and systems they applied in their business operations and daily life. Feel free to read :)

Sincerely,

Nur Atikah Ismail

Audible System in Tour Bus

Barcelona City Tour Bus or "Hop On and Hop Off Sightseeing Tourist Buses" is a popular way to view Barcelona City. I was pleasantly surprised by the experience as a first time traveler by riding the tour bus in Barcelona. I have always tended to write off the concept of a tourist bus tour as only for those who have no interest in truly understanding a city. From the tour, I managed to obtain a better understanding of the layout of the city and I had fun.

The Barcelona City Tour is operated by Julia Tours & Grupo Moventis which is a large Spanish Transportation Company in Spain. The bus city tour has 2 different routes to explore the city which are the Orange Line and Green Line. The tour will highlight all the things to do in the city so that the tourist can hop on and off at more than 44 stops provided. The key sights and world famous attractions of this fantastic city are included on the tour route. Click here to know the place covered by the Orange Line and Green Line.

A map provided by the company

Barcelona tour bus makes both options possible and convenient. There are some hitches in the service and systems provided on boarding the bus. On first entering the bus, they provide us with a paper map to accompany our journey. It is useful because the map shows the route line and allows travelers to figure out what there is of interest in the vicinity of each bus stop. They also provide us wit a small set of disposable headphones.

  The map & headphones
The Map and Headphones

Other than that, next to each pair of seats there is a small system into which two sets of headphones can be inserted. It is a wall mounted unit with a small screen indicating the channel number, which can be changed by pressing the buttons with up and down arrows on them. It has another set of buttons to adjust the volume. A small chart on the seat in front shows what channel number should be used depending on what language we prefer. The commentary is available in 10 different languages which are Catalan, Spanish, French, English, Italian, Russian, Deutsche, Japanese, Portuguese, and Chinese.

Audible System

Those who do not wish to have commentary during their journey can choose not to wear the headphones but there is no commentary on loud speakers. Commentary is provided by way of a lady's recorded voice. The information is sporadic and interspersed with classical music. On one of the buses that I boarded there were numerous occasions when the commentary was out of syncs with the area that the bus was travelling through. This normally occurred when the bus was stuck in traffic and had not yet reached the destination being discussed. This was usually rectified within approximately five minutes. The bus staffs interrupt the recorded commentary when each new stop is reached. The information provided is very factual with lots of dates and names. This may suit true fact finders and history.

The bus also provides a ramp at their back door and an area on the ground floor for wheelchair users. However, the top deck of the bus would be inaccessible to wheelchair users. Similar to a standard bus, it has a narrow, winding staircase to the open deck area. Here are some of the clearly picture of the Barcelona City Tour Bus for their valued passengers.

Barcelona City Tour is a new official touristic bus service that shows us the city from a new perspective which we can SEE, HEAR & ENJOY!

SEE. Thanks to the Barcelona City Tour panoramic deck because I am able to see the city’s monuments from a different point of view and enjoy its wonderful climate!

HEAR. The audio guide system service provides me all the information on the city and its most attractive places and monuments.

ENJOY. With the two new Barcelona City Tour routes, I enjoyed the most emblematic areas of the city and discover the new Barcelona, from the spectacular Agbar Tower to the city’s new beaches.

TTS 300 at Mercedes-Benz Museum

Assalammualaikum.. I'm sure you guys wondering with my entry's title for this time right? What kind of technology Mercedes Benz used at their museum? Ahhaa... that's what I would like to share with you guys about the fascination technology at Mercedes-Benz Museum which is TTS 300 Wireless Translation & Tour Guide System.

Mercedes-Benz Museum at night

In my experience visit the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, I feel like entering the only place in the world capable of documenting the history of the automobile from its very beginning because the museum will take you on a journey back in time to the year 1886. For this where the legend begins, with the pioneering invention by Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz who developed the Mercedes-Benz automobile. Let me introduce a little bit about the uniqueness of this museum before we go further to the main title.

First visit with HFT International Students

Second visit with my friends from UK

The new Mercedes-Benz Museum has been opened on 20th May 2006. The museum is built on a site of 60,000 square meters in front of the main entrance of the Daimler Chrysler Factory in Stuttgart, Unterturkheim. Over an area covering on 9 levels, the museum presents 160 vehicles and over 1,500 exhibits which divided into Legend Rooms and Collection Rooms. The Legend Rooms document the history of the Mercedes-Benz brand and are subdivided into themes and epochs. Meanwhile, the Collection Rooms offer a thematic presentation of the wealth and diversity of vehicles made by the brand itself.

Collection Rooms with future design

As refer to the article I read, Mercedes-Benz Museum used the technology of beyerdynamic's wireless Translation & Tour Guide System (TTS 300) for guided tours through the museum in order to let the visitors know exciting facts about the legendary motor-cars. This system is more effective and efficient rather than use tour guide because the visitors will learn about the items on display only. Even with low noise and small groups conducted, it cannot be guaranteed that all participants will understand the tour guide. But by using TTS 300 system, however, all visitors will understand everything perfectly. The system is simple and intuitively to handle with a reliable and perfect intelligibility of speech. You can click this link http://www.phonicear.dk/ to know more advantages of the TTS 300 System.

TTS 300 System

The systems are easy to handle and user friendly because TTS 300 provide 4 selected languages (Deutsche, English, Mandarin, and France) for the visitors. The visitors use a belt pack receiver with a headphone connected to it. The visitors' also just need to go in front of the selectable items and press the play button, then the systems frequencies whispering interpretation of the full history on it.  The visitors also can press the next button if they want to skip about it. This radio technology also ensures a smooth operation when going outside during the tour. It really helps the visitors to get more information, knowledge, make yourself heard and be understood rather than to hear the tour guide that's sometimes boring. Last but not least, let's enjoy a short tourism video at Mercedes-Benz Museum:

Google Driverless Car

One sunny day, I walked through near to the Stuttgart City Street to buy souvenir for my beloved family. I was enjoyed walking alone on that day before I leave Germany. Suddenly, I was really shocked that thing happened in front of my eyes is like miracle and reminds me to my younger brother. What was actually happened on that day?

Stuttgart City

Stuttgart Shopping Centre

I wondered and I could still remember the day I watch iRobot as a teen and being skeptical about my brother's statement that one day, but the driverless car become reality nowadays. And the reality made possible by a search engine company, Google. YES IT IS TRUE! The fairytale story really happened in front of me and Google finally has something to show for its work.

 www.google.com

The Google Driverless Car is powered by artificial intelligence that utilizes the input from the video cameras inside the car, a sensor on the vehicle’s top, and some radar and position sensors attached to different positions of the car. Sounds like a lot of effort to mimic the human intelligence in a car, but so far the system has successfully driven 1609 kilometers without human commands! Google also add that their driverless car is safer and smoother than actual driver. The technology and system are clearly illustrates below:

 www.google.com

Google has been testing autonomous cars on public roads since 2010, and it always has someone in the driver's seat. But now, Google has proved that their driverless car project is successfully controlled by the computer and radar. In order to prove this fairytale story, I would like to share a video on how this autonomous car is working. Let's check it out and enjoy the video!

German Self-Service Machines

Do you really need a different machine for every single service in your daily life? Or can one machine fulfill several functions? The answer is YES since applications, smart phones, social media are the digital world and reality that melting into one. Vending machines are also part of the digital sphere surrounding us. Vending machines have gone through significant changes and innovations in the developed countries.

A Vending Machine is machines which dispense items such as snacks, beverages, alcohol, cigarettes, lottery, tickets, cologne, consumer products and even gold and gems are served automatically to customers after the customers insert currency or credit into the machine. This is what I found in Germany, Spain and France.

Along my experienced in Stuttgart, I have found various types of vending machine which are do not available in Malaysia. The vending machines are really innovative self-service technology and convenient to the users. Here are some of my favorite vending machines in Germany:

McDonald Vending Machine at Berlin Train Station

Ticket Machines of Deutsche Bahn

 www.expatica.com
Recycling Bottle Vending Machine

 en.wikipedia.org
Vending Machine for bicycle tubes in Berlin

Lego Vending Machine at the Munich Train Station

 www.google.com
Cigarettes Vending Machine

 www.google.com
Stamp Vending Machine

Recently, the more interesting news I would like to share is TG-Gold-Super-Markt aims to introduce Gold Vending Machines at 500 locations including train stations and airports in Germany. Believe it or not? Sooner or later shoppers in Germany be able to buy gold as easily as bars of chocolate after a firm announced plans to install vending machines selling the precious metal across the country. The company based near Stuttgart, hopes to tap into the increasing interest in buying gold following disillusionment in other investments due to the economic downturn.

Gold Vending Machine

These days, vending machines are moving away from their classic origins as snack dispensers and dispersing everything from gold coins to iPods. At Frankfurt Airport, you can even buy iPods accessories from a vending machine.

Fun isn't it? The vending machines are really convenient to the users because you can buy whatever you want rather than go to the hypermarket or workshop.

"Fau Fau Es" (VVS)

Assalammualaikum peeps! Have you been heard about smart travel apps? Do you know this smart travel apps help you the most when you are in travelling? Yes, the smart travel apps have been used widespread throughout the developed countries nowadays but it's rare in Malaysia. So that I would like to share with you guys about the systems and sophisticated technologies in Stuttgart, Germany which is the Transit and Tariff Association Stuttgart (Verkehrs und Tarifverbund Stuttgart, VVS)

This smart travel app of VVS was founded in year 1978 and also has evolved into one of the most successful transit authorities in Germany and operates local transport services within the city and surrounding area. Furthermore, VVS also is the innovative mobile information system and significantly to maintaining and improving mobility in the metropolitan Stuttgart area. The region served comprises not only the state capital of Stuttgart, but also its 4 neighboring districts including Böblingen, Esslingen, Ludwigsburg, and Rems-Murr-Kreis, as well as over 1000 square miles area and almost 2.4 million populations.

The area covered by VVS
http://www.vvs.de

Year after year, most of the citizens and more riders make the decision to use public transportation provided by the government. This is because they can ride all streetcars, commuter trains, regional trains, and buses within the metropolitan Stuttgart area with the VVS applications. The mobile information systems of VVS are informative, easy to use and understand, and very helpful especially for the tourist to tour the city of Stuttgart. In the system they provided a map of each of tram connections from specific region to another region. A different color illustrates the regional rail lines as example below the yellow line shows the U9 tram line transit from Hidelfingen to Böblingen.

VVS transit maps for u-bahn & s-bahn train
https://play.google.com

Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite transit maps ever. As far as I know, this isometric approach is unique and it is staggeringly effective. Everything is beautifully labeled, and lovely icons highlight important sites like the zoo, museums and sports stadiums. What I like is the clever three dimensional representation of the Hauptbahnhof (train station). The isometric layout is a clever way of allowing all the type to be set horizontally without hitting route lines for both subtly different line weights of the S-Bahn and U-Bahn are work very well. The foreigner and tourist no need to worry if they were loss because this mobile application really helps me as a foreigner while I am studying over there. The more interesting is this application can use freely without internet connection.

One day, I am being a "super careless woman" after having a discussion with my team member because I took a wrong train. After while, I noticed that the environment outside is slightly different.. Supposedly, I should take S1 which directly to Unterturkheim but on that day I took S5. I was so panic and being coward because I am alone on that day plus the day getting dark. But, this mobile application really helps me to bring me home safely. The first thing you need to do is go to the apps and browse the location of the place you want to go. For example, on that day I need to go to the main station first which is Hauptbf then the apps will shows the map which area covered by the VVS as picture below:

Then, this app will guide and give you the choices of time and rail lines direction which train you need to take. Plus, this app also will give us the other alternative way and shorter time to ride. Based on the direction from the apps I need to take U4 to go to Unterturkheim as below:

Furthermore, this application also can guiding us and manages our time in the near future. Let's say we want to go to somewhere within the specific date and time, thus the apps can help us and solve the matter smoothly. Picture below shows the example how the app is working:

Not only that, VVS application also provides online ticket for their valued customer to book and buy via online. The customer can buy directly from their mobile phone wherever they wanted to go either purchase the group ticket or individual ticket for adult, kids, and also your pets.

I find it extremely convenient and helpful by using this app in my previous situation as a foreigner. I am very thankful for those who developed this superb application system of VVS which help the most Germany citizenship and the foreigner.

HFT Student ID cards contain a photograph and basic personal details of the cardholder. The card also contains a visible magnetic stripe.  Inside the card there is a chip and antenna. The magnetic stripe, chip and antenna all store information about the cardholder and their access to buildings on campus and other purposes. Below is an example of a HFT Student ID card:

I was enjoyed using these ID card provided by the university because the systems used was efficient and convenient for students.
